After a few grueling months on the road we needed some creature comforts. A night in Venice Beach staying at the Hotel Erwin followed up with breakfast at Eggslut did the trick. Hotel Erwin is a comfortable hotel with a great location right on the beach. It is a hip setup and they took great care of us. They must have seen that we needed a break with the kids because the set us up with a great room. Venice Beach has some great restaurants. Some that I can recommend: Gjusta (a favorite of mine but it can be inconsistent), Felix (one of my absolute favorites for special occasions), Superba (a staple, their sourdough is out of this world), Charcoal (fire cooked food), Hinano (dive bar with great burgers, a Jim Morrison hangout), and Belissimo (awesome Italian sandwiches) are some great examples of special local restaurants. There are also some good chains around like Tocaya (a good alternative when La Isla Bonita on Rose Ave is closed), and Eggslut.

Eggslut happens to be right next to Hotel Erwin. There are many places in Venice that inspire long queues, and Eggslut is one of them. We had breakfast there after a night at Hotel Erwin, and it did not disappoint. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. The perfect over medium yolks were mind blowingly perfect. It might be a chain, but it deserves the accolades and I understand why there are long lines.
